Interior Fire Retardant Treated Wood Roof Systems/Backing Materials

This luxurious indoor two-story shopping super mall contains 130 stores and covers over 1.3 million square feet.  It was designed under the SBCCI Standard Building Code to be a Type II noncombustible structure of concrete and steel.  In addition, building codes recognize both interior and exterior uses for fire retardant treated wood in this type of construction.

Fire retardant treated wood was used in several different interior applications throughout the structure.  In the roof system, Pyro-Guard® fire retardant treated wood was used to complete the parapets and marquis.  It was also used as backing material in the partitions, which provided a solid and reliable means of mounting sinks, toilets, handrails, and other wall mounted fixtures.

In addition, Pyro-Guard® was used to provide a stable mounting for the bi-fold doors inside the mall office.  In the exterior application, Exterior Fire-X® was used on the roof for blocking under the roof mounted HVAC units.
