Interior Fire Retardant Treated Wood Roof Systems/Backing Materials

The retirement community contains nine six-story buildings of Type II construction.  Under the ICC International Building Code and the National Building Code, the roof system of Type II construction can be constructed of fire retardant treated wood.

The decision to use fire retardant treated wood in the roof systm was beneficial to both the owner of the community and the contractor hired to complete the project.  The use of wood products reduced the overall cost of the project and allowed the contractor to use an ordinary framing/carpentry crew to complete the structure.  Furthermore, the owner of the community received a twenty-year manufacturer warranty by Hoover Treated Wood Products, Inc.
