From Lunch and Learn to Building Brilliance in Kentucky

Hoover recognizes the vital role of ongoing education for building code officials, who must continuously update their knowledge to maintain their licenses. Building strong relationships with regional organizations has been a priority for Hoover.

Most recently, Jim Gogolski, Hoover’s Architectural + Code Specialist, presented his FRTW program to the Code Administrators Association of Kentucky (CAAK). His session focused on combining essential insights on wood-frame construction with practical applications of the International Building Code (IBC).

Jim’s relationship with CAAK began a year ago when he first met one of their officers at the International Code Conference Expo in St. Louis. That meeting led to an invitation to present a three-hour training session at their fall conference in Bowling Green, KY this past week.

Jim’s three-hour session was an extended version of his traditional “Lunch and Learn” presentation. In particular, this session emphasized the importance of understanding heights and areas in wood-frame buildings.

“The IBC serves as an essential resource for building code officials nationwide, encompassing factors like snow load considerations for northern states and wind loads for coastal regions,” said Jim. “It’s important for us to give these trainings because to ensure officials are well-equipped to adapt to the diverse challenges posed by their respective environments.”
